My area has two regional ISP's both offer 7 -10 MB/s internet services for under $25 a month. These options are not published publicly but all you have to do is ask.
If you have ever used an online internet speed test you'll likely notice that the speed you measure when wired to the modem via Ethernet normally matches your quoted speed. BUT, the speed when your on wifi is lower. This is because that router you are leasing for $5/month sucks!
Your better off buying a good one for $100 which will pay for itself. And downgrading to a lower speed. You can have two people streaming HD Netflix on a 10mb/s plan with no issues.
