LPT: If you're in high school, get a job. Any job. It will teach you so many things and improve your life.

I used to be much less than who I am now.

It all started when I decided to get a job at a nearby Chipotle restaurant for some spending money. The salary was the initial reason I went for the job, but it gave me so much more.

Note: My life was pretty shitty as you will be able to tell. If your life is awesome and you are strong willed, this obviously won't have as drastic of an effect on you.

  1. Social skills with strangers. I am an introvert, and wanted to be more social. This job gave me chances to talk and experiment with multiple customers every single day! I wasn't afraid of messing up, because I would probably never see them again. This improved my confidence in speaking with strangers by a lot.

  2. Social skills part 2. I learned to become friends with my coworkers. I'm going to admit it, I used to suck at talking to girls. This work experience gave me so many opportunites to interact with females that talking to girls in general seemed way less scary.

  3. Independance. I no longer had to depend on my parents on buying me everything I wanted. If I felt there was reason to buy something, I didn't have to argue with my parents for it. This also taught me self control and not to spend based on my immediate urges.

  4. Money value. I valued money much more. I began paying for my own gym membership, my own food, my own everything. I used to skip gym days quite often and I didn't really think about the money I was wasting because my parents were paying for it. Now, I value my gym membership and I don't buy crazy amounts of food and waste money.

  5. Time management. I used to game so much. I would get home and play games until the evening, and then rush my homework as fast as I could. As you can imagine, this resulted in poor grades and small amounts of sleep. For some reason, making myself more busy made me think of my priorities, and I actually quit gaming through that! Obviously this may not work for everyone, but for me this job showed me that I had a limited amount of valuable time.

  6. Perseverence. In the past, I couldn't focus on homework for more than 30 minutes. I couldn't go past my comfort zone and I was lazy. Running for more than ten minutes was nearly impossible, not physically, but mentally. When I was working, I couldn't stop. Even if my back hurt and I was tired as hell, I knew there was a manager supervising me, and that I had to continue. Getting a job made me a harder worker, and I can be outside my comfort zone much more now.

Overall, I'm just really happy right now :D
